Digital activity soared over April – DBI & Hikari

Retail traffic up 60%, 30% increase in .ie domain registrations 

Digital Business Ireland (DBI), the representative body for online businesses and Hikari, a data solutions and business insights company, today said that digital activity has continued to soar over Covid-19. The companies were reacting to the April 2020 statistics collated right across a number of online operators for their Digital Data Hub.  

The Digital Data Hub is designed for CEOs and business development strategists who can access important business insights ranging from the number of new websites registered to the increase of traffic on social media sites and the most popular items being bought online. The Hub allows businesses map the important changes the virus is affecting on businesses with the data results being refreshed weekly.   

DBI and Hikari have collated the information from a range of sources to include the CSO, the Department of Employment Affairs & Social Protection, Core Optimisation, Wolfgang Digital, IEDR, KBC Bank, the ESRI and Sky Media.

Founder of Digital Business Ireland, Lorraine Higgins said “April has seen a succession of positive data regarding online and digital activity with a stand-out statistic emerging in the form of the increase in domain registrations which hit 30% over that month.  The move to an online platform over this period can be best understood when you look at the steady increase of online retail traffic which has increased by 60%.”
